Movement
is Medicine
We have all heard the term “movement is medicine.” However, not all movement is created equal, and neither are our bodies! What is right, or accessible for one person may be completely out of bounds for someone else. And, the kind of movement we need one day is often quite different from what we need another day.
This is one of the things I love most about movement – that every exercise has its own unique biodynamic. Forward folds and twists tend to ground, calm, steady, and connect our energy. Bigger movements, like backbends and side bends invite more expansive breathing and raise our energy. The types of exercises we choose, and the sequence in which we perform them has its own alchemy that impacts how we feel not only right afterwards, but also how we feel later that day, and the next. Knowing this insight is huge – but we have to start at a place that meets us where we are, and then takes us where we want to go.
Just as important, is choosing movements and exercises that support our unique anatomy.
For individuals with scoliosis, hyperkyphosis, spinal fusions or other spinal conditions where movement must be observed in a neutral spine, not to worry – I’ve got you covered!
I PROMISE, you’ll still benefit from the qualities you love in a twist or backbend, but without the risk of moving your spine in directions that feed a curve. We can move, breathe, and learn so many strategies that give our body what it wants and needs, but in a Spine Smart way that promotes the best possible alignment and stability for your unique anatomy.
I’ve designed classes ranging from 15 to 60 minutes whether you are looking to stretch or to strengthen, or raise or stabilize your energy. Regardless of which class you do, you should feel taller, stronger, more collected and connected to yourself afterwards.
I invite you to experience your curiosity, and tap into the part of you that is limitless, so that you experience your authentic brilliance.
“Just finished my first one, Meredith you are amazing! I haven’t done yoga for months because I was scared how it would affect my scoliosis, and it’s so relieving to practice with a professional who understands how scoliosis interacts with yoga. Thank you!!”
